I love to use my crock pot for Sunday dinners. I’ve cooked many roasts in them throughout the years. This root beer roast recipe uses root beer as a flavoring while cooking. It may sound odd, but I think the root beer adds a sweet and buttery flavor to the roast.
Add some carrots, onion, olive oil and salt and pepper and you have a roast flavor to die for! This root beer roast is also a good conversation piece. I love seeing the look on my friends’ faces when I tell them my secret ingredient is root beer. I’ve also heard of friends using coke, sprite and even ginger ale.

- Root beer Roast
- 5 lb roast (I used a rump roast)
- 32 oz root beer (room temperature)
- 1 bag small carrots (I put them in whole since they are small)
- 1 onion
- Salt and Pepper
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper roast and then brown it in oil till sides are slightly browned.
- Put ⅓ of root beer into the bottom of crock pot.
- Put roast into the crock pot.
- Add carrots and onions.
- Pour rest of root beer over top.
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
- (The longer you cook it, it will shred instead of cut. I like mine shredded but if you don't then don't cook it as long)
- Gravy
- Put roast drippings into a sauce pan.
- Mix together flour and water till you have a paint like consistency.
- (No specific amount, just add together since you will throw out what you don't use.)
- Bring roast drippings to a boil
- Slowly stir in flour mixture until you have gravy consistency.
- Add salt and pepper to taste!
