For as long as I can remember, my Mom would make this Reindeer Pear Salad every Christmas dinner. I love how such a simple thing as a salad can bring back so many wonderful memories. My mom always put a lot of love and care into our Christmas meals, and I have tried to carry on that tradition with my own family. My mom has long since passed away, but I am glad I can keep a little part of her each Christmas by serving this cute salad!
One of the best parts about this Christmas pear salad, is that I was actually able to get my kids to eat some fruit and veggies on Christmas. They were always excited to have their little pear reindeer sitting next to their dinner plate. In fact, my daughter told me just the other day that it was her favorite memory of Christmas dinner.
- Lettuce
- Cottage Cheese
- Canned Pear halves
- Maraschino Cherries
- Apple Slices or pretzels
- Craisins or Raisins
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- To assemble your reindeer, layer a couple of slices of lettuce on a small plate.
- Put a scoop of cottage cheese on top.
- Lay your pear half, rounded side up, on top of cottage cheese.
- Put a half of maraschino cherry on for a nose, craisins for eyes, and sliced apples or broken pretzels for the antlers.
- Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the lettuce and cottage cheese for more color.
- (Save the pear juice, because as a kid I loved to pour it over the cottage cheese when eating the salad.)
- Simple, healthy and fun!
