Day 4 on our 30 Days of Christmas Countdown
I know this isn’t a Christmas recipe, but unfortunately this time of year brings along the dreaded flu!
This week I have had the flu, and my cough was becoming a true annoyance. Not wanting to go to the store, (mainly because I didn’t feel good, but I didn’t look good either) I wanted to find something that would help with my cough. I had always heard about lemon and honey helping to control a cough and break up the phlegm. (Sorry, I know this is a food blog and phlegm isn’t what you want to read about, but it is part of life!) I decided to try making my own remedy. I was truly amazed at how well this worked. It not only helped subdue my cough, but it truly did help break up the congestion in my chest. Honey has actually been found in many studies to appear to be as efective as a common cough suprressant ingredient! I don’t like taking medications if I can avoid it, so this was a perfect answer to helping my cough!
(Please remember NOT to give honey to children one and under)
Honey-Lemon Cough Remedy
1 cup hot water (I put mine in the microwave and make it as hot as I can stand to drink it)
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp lemon (I used freshed squeezed lemon, but you can use lemon juice)
Stir and drink slowly!
If you have a good home remedy for the flu or a cold, please share it!
