Cabbage Au Gratin

Ingredients
  • 5 cups cooked cabbage (1 large head)
  • 6 Tbs. butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 Tbs. flour
  • ½ tsp. pepper
  • ½ cup bread crumbs or cracker crumbs
Instructions
  1. Cut cabbage into 2-3 inch chunks.
  2. Cook cut cabbage in boiling water until just barely soft.
  3. Place in a greased casserole dish.
  4. Make the white sauce by melting 3 Tbs. butter in a pan and making a rue with the flour. (Save the other half of butter for the topping)
  5. Gradually add milk, stirring continually.
  6. Add salt and pepper.
  7. Pour the white sauce over the cabbage.
  8. Melt remaining butter and mix with bread or cracker crumbs.
  9. Spread the crumb mixture over the top of the cabbage.
  10. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30-45 minutes.
