Ingredients
  • 1¾ cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1½ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (If you like more cherry filling, use the large can, I used the regular sized can)
  • Nutmeg
  • Cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat well. Add the dry ingredients and stir till blended. Spread half of the dough on a greased 13x9 pan. (This can be a little tricky, so I dip my knife in flour and spread it out. Spread the cherry pie filling over the dough and sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over the top. Add the rest of the dough, ( it will blend in some with the cherry filling which is ok because it give it a nice color). Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  2. Glaze with a mix of powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract. Use ¼ cup powdered sugar and add milk until you get the consistency you like and add a few drops of vanilla. I was out of powdered sugar so I used ¼ cup water and ⅓ cup granulated sugar and boiled it till it was dissolved and let it cool. Brush the top of the cake to give it a glossy look.
  3. ENJOY!!
